Level 1 covers the basics of AC industrial induction motors, theory and application.  This guided course is led by Dr. Howard Penrose, Ph.D., a leading international expert in the field of electrical motors and systems.

In the first section, the student will learn basic electro-mechanical theory, motor and transformer theory, insulation, motor connections (NEMA and IEC) as well as distribution and control basics.  The second section covers application considerations for AC induction motors including selection and application.  Application, energy efficiency, installation considerations and the basics of belted and direct drive alignment and tensioning will be covered.  In the third section of Level 1, general maintenance and troubleshooting will be covered.  Greasing, general maintenance and an introduction to the application of motor circuit analysis, electrical signature analysis, ultrasonics, vibration, infrared, multi-meter and insulation resistance testing is included.

Comprehensive Workbook
and handouts included

Who Should Attend:

  • Maintenance and Reliability Professionals involved in Condition Based Monitoring of induction motors who would like a more in-depth understanding of the operational theories and practical considerations involved in overseeing these industrial workhorses.

  • Mechanically inclined personnel will also benefit greatly from Dr. Penrose's down-to-earth, simple explanations of electro-mechanical theory, motor operation and CBM testing and interpretation.

  • Managers who need a better understanding of electrical systems, CBM monitoring techniques and the challenges that are contained therein.
